Salisbury Literary Political Dining Club present Harvey Proctor
Harvey Proctor was the Conservative and Unionist Member of Parliament for Basildon from 1979 to 1983, then the MP for Billericay until 1987. He was the private secretary to the Duke of Rutland from 2003 until his retirement in 2015.
The former Conservative MP talks frankly about his life in and out of Parliament, from the struggles and controversy surrounding his resignation in 1987 to the numerous attacks endured since – one of which, was a very nearly successful attempt on his life.
He will speak candidly about his most recent embroilment in Operation Midland, of being the victim of a witch-hunt that had all but destroyed his reputation, adding to the topical debate about police lack of due process in the post-Levinson world of ‘guilty until proven innocent’.
