During the week, Wiltshire Council libraries will be offering a series of free activities and promotions celebrating and highlighting some of the many services they provide, alongside the regular activities and services, including rhyme times, reading groups, health trainer sessions, memory groups and computer help clubs.
People are also being asked to describe their local library in one word as part of special displays in libraries
At Devizes Community Hub and library, as well as the official opening on the afternoon of Tuesday 10 October, where there will be a host of activities and entertainment, there is also a special sci-fi and fantasy fun day, inspired by books, TV and film, for all the family on Saturday 14 October between 10am and 2pm.
Experts will be on hand to give advice and demonstrate the latest in robotics and computer art, as well as writing and illustrating. There will also be a full size interactive Star Wars droids back by popular demand, plus a Doctor Who Dalek and Cyberman.
As part of Salisbury's Secret Libraries Week (7-14 October), Salisbury Library will be hosting a special display all week of maps and other items rarely seen from the library store.
On Saturday 7 October, there will be a talk by Emily Naish on the Highlights of Salisbury Cathedral Library Medieval to Modern, Music to Mice. Conservative Cabinet Member for Libraries, John Thomson, said:
"This is an excellent opportunity to celebrate what libraries mean to different people and enjoy a host of fun events taking place during the week. I would encourage as many people as possible to visit their local library and take part in the activities being offered to celebrate Libraries Week."
Anyone joining a Wiltshire library during this week will be automatically entered into a prize draw, and one newly joined child member and one adult member selected at random will win a prize.
There will also be special book quizzes for children and adults.
