Three Generations of Macphersons serving the community

Whilst November elections are rare today, 80 years ago in November 1932 Charles Macpherson was elected to Swindon Borough Council, and continued as a councillor until reorganisation of Local Government in 1974. He also was served on Wiltshire County Council in this period and was made a Freeman of the Borough in 1960

80 years on Charles grandson, Angus, is seeking election as the first Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire and Swindon, continuing a long family tradition of service. Like his grandmother Phyllis, Angus is a magistrate and like his father, Stuart, and grandfather he also served as been a borough councillor. Stuart Macpherson was elected to Swindon Borough Council in 1969 until 1988, and in the ’70s was the leader of the council.
