Every Monday morning senior citizens are given help setting up their own tablets, sending emails, using Skype and other apps, taking photos, browsing the web and downloading ebooks.
Stephen Williams MP, Under Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, dropped in on the club at Royal Wootton Library (Monday 3 November).
Now there are four regular volunteers who ‘staff’ the sessions and also offer one to one support.
Jonathon Seed, cabinet member for libraries, said:
“This is a unique initiative and one that should be applauded. Today’s technology is not the preserve of the young and introducing senior citizens to the benefits of the internet can help to keep them involved in the community and avoid isolation and loneliness.”
