Senior Citizens get Withit at IT cafe club

Every Monday morning senior citizens are given help setting up their own tablets, sending emails, using Skype and other apps, taking photos, browsing the web and downloading ebooks.
The Withit launch inspired one 94-year-old to buy her own iPad and she is now having daily lessons from a neighbour.

Stephen Williams MP, Under Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, dropped in on the club at Royal Wootton Library (Monday 3 November).

Now there are four regular volunteers who ‘staff’ the sessions and also offer one to one support.
Then Wiltshire Council Area Board Manager Penny Bell, Conservative Wiltshire Councillor Allison Bucknell and volunteers from Wiltshire Online helped establish the project which started with a grant of £4,300 and has been running in the library since the beginning of April.

Jonathon Seed, cabinet member for libraries, said:

“This is a unique initiative and one that should be applauded. Today’s technology is not the preserve of the young and introducing senior citizens to the benefits of the internet can help to keep them involved in the community and avoid isolation and loneliness.”
