Six new Historic Amesbury signs have gone up on main routes into the town funded by the town council.
Earlier this year a row broke out when the Highways Agency refused to install new tourist signs directing people to “historic Amesbury” because they said they would be “misleading”. The town council chose to spend around £800 on each of the six signs for their town centre enhancement budget.
The town’s mayor Andy Rhind-Tutt said:
This is worth every penny. The old signs needed replacing and these will help to promote Amesbury as a tourist destination.
