Campus Update for Corsham Area

The people of Corsham will get the first sight of what the new community campus may look like during a touring exhibition next week (January 16 to January 19, 2012) organised by Wiltshire Council. The campus will combine an improved leisure centre with a range of community facilities, including a new library, performance, exhibition and recreational space, meeting rooms and café bar.

The programme will also mean many more Wiltshire Council services will be delivered within the community from the new campus and the police will also have a presence there.

The project is being overseen by the Shadow Corsham Community Operations Board (COB), comprised of volunteers from within the community representing the community at large as well as the youth sector and schools, local town and parish councils, the existing leisure and community centres, a local community transport group and the area board.

During the past ten weeks, the COB has been working closely with Wiltshire Council-appointed architects and planning specialists to turn the results of extensive consultation with local people into working designs, which will form the basis of a travelling exhibition starting on January 16 and run for a week.

Cllr Alan MacRae, chairman of the area board and Conservative Wiltshire Councillor for Corsham Pickwick Divisiobn said:

“Wiltshire Council is dedicated to providing better and more accessible services. Community campuses will change how communities access their public services by bringing what the community needs to where they need it.’

The Springfield development at Corsham will be the first in a series of pilot projects that are designed to assess the thinking, delivery and management of the community campus concept across Wiltshire.

Wiltshire Cabinet has approved the funding and the go-ahead for the first three pilot projects at Corsham, Melksham and Salisbury. The COB in Corsham has been working for more than a year on the Springfield campus and it is likely the campus will be the first to be designed, built, up and running.
